Job Summary

This position involves operating a commercial motorized vehicle dump truck to transport and dump construction materials such as sand, gravel, and asphalt in a regional area.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned truck to ensure safe operating condition and submit a written report at the end of each shift.
  • Operate 30-ton tri-axle or 34-ton quad-axle dump trucks, applying knowledge of commercial driving skills in various conditions.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment cleanliness and perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment, taking proper safety precautions and anticipating potential hazards.
  • Properly load and unload freight to ensure safety and minimal risk of damage to cargo and people.
  • Communicate with plant and crew personnel to assist with loading and unloading of materials.
  • Schedule and attend DOT physicals as required to maintain driving privileges.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations, including drivers' logs, fuel purchases, mileage records, and other records.
  • Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather, or traffic conditions, or other emergencies.
  • Report highway safety hazards noted en route and report all accidents involving driver or company equipment.
Requirements
  • Valid Class B CDL with satisfactory driving record and knowledge of commercial driving regulations, vehicle safety, control systems, and roads.
  • 2 years previous CDL driving experience, with tri-axle dump truck experience required and asphalt experience preferred.
  • No DOT accidents in the past 3 years, no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years, and no DUI or reckless driving violation in the last 7 years.
  • Current DOT medical card and ability to pass regular DOT physicals, including drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Maintain a valid CDL in compliance with DOT regulations and advise employer of any changes.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to follow federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and other safety regulations to promote safe driving and work environment.
  • Good communication skills to communicate effectively with business users, read and speak English sufficiently to converse with plants and crews, and respond to inquiries.
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation to review, evaluate, and prepare written and electronic documents and materials.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor or indoor environment, including standing, walking, bending, and kneeling, and using all required safety equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as necessary, with a flexible schedule subject to change.
