History Educator

We are seeking a dedicated History Educator to join our team at Uncommon Schools. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in shaping the academic journey of our students.
About the RoleThis position is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator to make a meaningful impact on the lives of high school students. You will be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans that prioritize analysis of World, US History, American Government, and Economics.
In this role, you will facilitate student-led discussions, where students grapple with open-ended questions, engage in peer-to-peer debate, and synthesize arguments. You will also guide students to understand the author's claim and the power of sourcing while developing essential skills in argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiography through primary and secondary source analysis.
You will build an inclusive and safe environment where students feel empowered to express evidence-based opinions and perspectives. Additionally, you will work closely with the History department to determine academic and engagement goals for students.
Duties and Responsibilities- Instruction: Teach a curriculum that prioritizes analysis of World, US History, American Government, and Economics in preparation for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.
- Data Analysis: Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
- School Culture: Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.

A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives is highly valued. Prior experience working in K-12 urban schools and communities is preferred, but not required.
