ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Speech and Language Pathologist plays a crucial role in delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services to students with identified speech and language challenges. This professional is expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of communication needs, encompassing cognitive aspects (such as attention, memory, and problem-solving), social communication skills, and the effects of hearing loss on speech and language development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate students' communication abilities (e.g., articulation, fluency, expressive and receptive language) to identify disorders and recommend treatment plans.

• Collaborate with educational staff and families to develop and implement effective communication strategies and interventions.

• Provide guidance on oral motor skill development and daily functional needs, including feeding, to support student IEP goals.

• Analyze and synthesize assessment data to recommend appropriate speech and language interventions.

• Educate students on the use of communication technologies (e.g., hearing aids, augmentative devices) to enhance their educational experience.

• Interpret medical documentation to ensure treatment plans align with students' needs.

• Maintain comprehensive records (e.g., progress reports, treatment plans) to ensure compliance and reference.

• Conduct screenings and assessments to identify students requiring speech and language services.

• Participate in professional development opportunities and provide training to staff and parents.

• Engage in the development and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students, utilizing evidence-based practices.

• Deliver speech and language services through various models (e.g., integrated therapy, small group sessions) to support student success.

• Recommend and utilize assistive technologies to facilitate communication access for students.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

• Apply professional expertise to diagnose and treat speech and language disorders.

• Commit to ongoing professional development and training.

• Fulfill additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

• Uphold organizational policies and educational standards.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• The role may require physical strength and endurance for various tasks.

• The position involves minimal exposure to hazardous conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement for Speech and Language Pathologist.

• Ability to travel within the organization and member districts as needed.

• Strong communication skills with staff and families.

• Experience working with students with special needs is preferred.

• Completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training is required.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Proficiency in using technology systems and assistive devices to support communication programming.

• Ability to assess and address students' diverse communication needs effectively.
