About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriter to join our Group Benefit Solutions team at New York Life Insurance Company. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating and managing risk for our employer group clients, ensuring that our products are priced accurately and that our clients receive the best possible service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Analysis and Management: Perform in-depth analysis of employer group demographics, industry research, and other actuarial tools to develop a comprehensive risk assessment for each client.
  • Collaboration with Sales Team: Work closely with our sales team to explain your analysis and develop strategies to balance risk and profits.
  • Account Management: Manage an assigned book of business, focused on attaining profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, products, and pricing to support the growth and profitability of our business.
  • Customer Presentations: Partner with sales department and brokers to deliver customer presentations and act as a financial consultant on case-specific issues.
  • Training and Development: Mentor and train less tenured underwriters, helping them to develop their technical knowledge and competency skills.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of Group Life, Accident, Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, and Absence underwriting, or other relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of large employer groups with multi-carrier product offerings and awareness of the drivers of a marketing outside of group insurance specific dynamics. Thorough knowledge of risk factors that influence market and competitive conditions. Ability to make effective decisions based on strong knowledge of all financial and risk levels, both internal and external.
  • Personal Qualities: Strong time management skills, highly organized, detail oriented. Ability to foster strong working relationships. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas, persuade and negotiate effectively.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: $90,000-$135,000.
  • Exempt Status: Overtime eligible.
  • Discretionary Bonus Eligible: Yes.
  • Sales Bonus Eligible: No.
