Position Overview

Role: LPN - 4 Medical Inpatient Unit
Facility: UnityPoint Health

This is a part-time position requiring one or two 12-hour shifts weekly, available for both day (7am-7pm) and night (7pm-7am) schedules, including rotation for weekends and holidays.


Unit Description:

The 4 Medical unit comprises 23 inpatient beds, including two designated hospice suites. Here, you will engage with a diverse patient population, including those with neurological conditions, oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, and individuals requiring end-of-life care.

As an LPN within this framework, you will deliver care to a defined group of patients, applying the full range of competencies acquired through your licensure.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver safe, patient-centered care under the guidance of an RN.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and monitor vital signs.
  • Administer prescribed medications as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Provide evidence-based patient education from the point of admission.
  • Document daily progress towards care objectives.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as foley catheter insertion, NG tube placement, dressing changes, and drain management.
  • Facilitate discharge education and review care instructions with patients and their families.
  • Maintain accurate records in the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited LPN program.
  • Prior experience as a CNA or PCT is preferred.
  • Current LPN licensure in the State of Iowa or a compact state.
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated competency in essential nursing skills and the operation of specialized medical equipment.
  • Ability to complete training on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Understanding of the legal framework governing nursing practice.
  • Adherence to established departmental protocols and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
