ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is an expansive culinary marketplace situated within a significant historical landmark. This venue encompasses various dining options, including full-service restaurants, fast-casual outlets, and retail spaces featuring exclusive products. To support this extensive operation, the marketplace is equipped with a large commissary kitchen and bakery, as well as an exhibition kitchen designed for media engagements.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook position is tasked with the meticulous preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes in accordance with menu specifications and recipes.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and create a variety of high-quality dishes based on guest orders, adhering to approved recipes and specifications in a timely manner.
  • Work across different kitchen stations as required by business needs.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure menu items are cooked and delivered simultaneously.
  • Accurately measure and weigh ingredients, utilizing recipes to produce dishes that meet established standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of recipes, ingredients, allergens, and food presentation techniques.
  • Ensure that food quality, quantity, freshness, and presentation align with the standards of the Tin Building.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization within the kitchen, following all safety, health, and sanitation protocols.
  • Properly store or dispose of leftover food items.
  • Set up and stock kitchen stations, replenishing inventory and supplies as necessary.
  • Label, date, and rotate all products and prepared items according to FIFO (first in, first out) guidelines.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including punctuality and uniform standards.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned in a timely and professional manner.
  • Act ethically to safeguard the company's assets and reputation.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to meet business demands.
  • Perform other duties as required or requested.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Culinary degree or certification is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
  • Proficient knife skills and comprehensive cooking knowledge are essential.
  • Experience with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures is necessary.
  • Familiarity with multiple kitchen stations is advantageous.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and sanitation standards is required.
  • Ability to follow directions and execute recipes accurately.
  • Capability to work efficiently in a clean and organized manner under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills are crucial.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, team-oriented attitude, and customer-focused approach.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passion for culinary arts and dedication to success are important.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions consistently and safely, in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant standards.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement throughout the property to complete tasks, including bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Regular climbing of steps may be necessary.

The base pay range for this position is $17-$22 per hour, determined by various factors including prior experience and qualifications.
