Position Overview

The Pinon Unified School District is seeking a dedicated educator to collaborate with program staff in the development and instruction of Navajo Literacy. The ideal candidate will employ language acquisition strategies such as Structured English Immersion or Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) to enhance student learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Exhibit expertise in the content area and adhere to the approved curriculum.

2. Design, select, and modify the Diné Studies curriculum to meet educational standards.

3. Tailor instructional methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning needs.

4. Implement a variety of teaching techniques and resources for effective instruction.

5. Understand and apply principles of student growth, development, and learning.

6. Manage classroom environments to optimize instructional time.

7. Collaborate effectively with administration, colleagues, parents, and the community.

8. Prepare thoroughly for instruction, demonstrating evidence of planning.

9. Participate in professional development opportunities, including meetings and workshops.

10. Provide enriching learning experiences in Diné language arts, culture, and history.

11. Stay informed about recent developments and literature in bilingual education.

12. Instruct students in essential communication skills and citizenship.

13. Develop instructional materials for Diné language arts, culture, and history that cater to various learning styles.

14. Offer individualized and group instruction to support student transitions.

15. Establish and uphold standards of behavior for effective participation.

16. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.

17. Identify student needs and collaborate with other professionals to address health, behavioral, and learning challenges.

18. Maintain professional growth through in-service education activities.

19. Utilize technology as an instructional tool and model its use for professional tasks.

20. Administer language proficiency assessments and evaluate student progress.

21. Analyze instructional data to implement best practices.

22. Conduct attendance accounting as required.

23. Foster communication with students, staff, and parents.

24. Treat all individuals with dignity and respect.

25. Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor in line with board policy.

26. Adhere to all relevant educational policies and regulations.

27. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Valid Native American Language Teaching Certification and/or Arizona Teaching Certificate.

2. Valid fingerprint clearance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

3. Minimum of three years of teaching experience.

4. Proficiency in the Diné Language.

5. Alternative qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate.

6. Proven successful employment history.

7. Required for Secondary Diné Studies Teacher: Master's Degree in Bilingual/Multicultural Education.
