Physical Therapist Assistant - Orthopedic Care Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our team at Spine and Joint Institute of Milwaukee. As an essential member of our orthopedic care team, you will assist physical therapists in providing high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist physical therapists in delivering physical therapy treatments and procedures to patients with various orthopedic conditions.
  • Administer traction to relieve neck and back pain, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Instruct and motivate patients to learn and improve functional activities, promoting independence and recovery.
  • Monitor patients during treatments, collecting data on their responses and progress, and report findings to physical therapists.
  • Fitting patients for, adjusting, and training them on the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  • Collaborate with the physical therapy staff and other healthcare professionals to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Orient new physical therapist assistants and direct and instruct physical therapy aides as needed.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering phone calls, taking messages, and filling out forms.
  • Measure patients' range-of-joint motion, length, and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine the effects of specific treatments or assist physical therapists in compiling data for patient evaluations.
  • Supervise treatments administered by physical therapy aides, ensuring quality care and adherence to protocols.
Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance, retirement savings plan, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.

Requirements and Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A valid state license as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).
  • Graduation from an accredited PTA program.
  • Experience working in an orthopedic setting, preferably in a hospital or clinic environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to lift, move, and position patients safely, using proper body mechanics and equipment.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology, as well as understanding of medical terminology and codes.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
