Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain sterile procedures.
- Prepare surgical trays.
- Assist in various surgical operations, including biopsies and excisions.
- Collect and log laboratory specimens.
- Perform suture removals.
- Execute both front and back office tasks.
- Conduct patient intake processes.
- Document patient interactions for the dermatologist.
- Support diagnostic testing and phototherapy.
- Undertake clerical tasks as required.
- Provide assistance at other locations within the specialty as needed.
The Healthcare Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment while delivering patient care services that assist the physician's practice. Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations and procedures, aiding physicians during procedures, communicating instructions from the physician to patients or authorized individuals, gathering patient information in person and via phone, and documenting patient concerns and care in the electronic medical record for physician review. Other duties involve administering medications as directed by the physician, recording vital signs, scheduling appointments and procedures, accurately taking messages, routing messages appropriately, entering orders and referrals, obtaining pre-certifications, and managing case setups in the electronic system, along with basic registration and demographic updates.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program, possession of a Medical Assistant Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman.
- BLS certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- At least one year of Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient environment.
- Familiarity with sterile techniques, surgical tray preparation, Epic software, assisting in surgical procedures, collecting lab specimens, and performing suture removals.
