Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at UnitedHealth Group. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmologists and optometrists in delivering high-quality eye care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient assessments by recording medical history and charting procedures for medical records.
  • Perform and record visual acuities, color vision, stereopsis tests, auto refractometer readings, refraction, and intraocular pressure, as directed by physicians.
  • Coordinate physician activities and facilitate patient flow in the office.
  • Utilize AIDET to greet patients, handle questions during visits, triage phone calls, and schedule appointments.
  • Administer ocular medications under physician direction.
  • Assist with treatments and minor surgical procedures as needed, under physician direction.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable medical records.
  • Complete patient billing and track referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Ophthalmology department and other Optum departments.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, with evidence of continuing education in the specialty field.
  • COA certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
  • BLS or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Eligibility for Washington State Medical Assistant (MA-R) registration.
  • 1+ years of experience in an eye care setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in multiple subspecialties within Ophthalmology.
  • Knowledge of the refraction process.
