Immigration Legal Counsel

The organization is looking to recruit an Immigration Staff Attorney for its operations. As part of a collaborative team, the attorney will deliver immigration legal assistance to individuals who have experienced crimes. The attorney will manage a diverse range of immigration matters, focusing on humanitarian-based immigration options such as VAWA, U Visa, and asylum. The caseload will encompass both affirmative applications and defense against removal, including detention cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual immigration consultations and provide know-your-rights presentations to immigrant populations.
- Advocate for clients before various entities, including immigration courts, ICE, USCIS, and both state and federal courts, in pursuit of relief from removal.
- Collaborate with allied community organizations, including delivering educational programs for the community;
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and billing documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Active membership in a State Bar (not limited to Florida)
- The attorney must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law institution,
- Ideally, have 1-3 years of pertinent experience in immigration law;
- Experience working with low-income communities is preferred but not mandatory;
- The attorney should demonstrate the ability to show appropriate sensitivity and empathy towards individuals who have faced traumatic situations and should be dedicated to serving immigrants and vulnerable groups;
- Capacity to manage a substantial caseload and maintain professionalism in a high-pressure environment;
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities;
- Ability to work independently when necessary and also effectively as part of a team, including other attorneys, support personnel, volunteers, and community partners;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Capability to balance and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial equity.
- Ability to work efficiently across various teams.
- Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English is a plus;

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time exempt position. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, starting at $65,000. The compensation for the selected candidate may be significantly higher based on their years of experience.
The organization provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, and life insurance (for the employee), retirement plans, 13 paid holidays, and generous annual and sick leave entitlements starting at 15 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year—promoting a healthy work-life balance.
