The organization is looking to recruit an Immigration Staff Attorney for its operations. As part of a collaborative team, the attorney will deliver immigration legal assistance to individuals who have experienced crimes. The attorney will manage a diverse range of immigration matters, focusing on humanitarian-based immigration options such as VAWA, U Visa, and asylum. The caseload will encompass both affirmative applications and defense against removal, including detention cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual immigration consultations and provide know-your-rights presentations to immigrant populations.
  • Advocate for clients before various entities, including immigration courts, ICE, USCIS, and both state and federal courts, in pursuit of relief from removal.
  • Collaborate with allied community organizations, including delivering educational programs for the community;
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and billing documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active membership in a State Bar (not limited to Florida)
  • The attorney must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law institution,
  • Ideally, have 1-3 years of pertinent experience in immigration law;
  • Experience working with low-income communities is preferred but not mandatory;
  • The attorney should demonstrate the ability to show appropriate sensitivity and empathy towards individuals who have faced traumatic situations and should be dedicated to serving immigrants and vulnerable groups;
  • Capacity to manage a substantial caseload and maintain professionalism in a high-pressure environment;
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities;
  • Ability to work independently when necessary and also effectively as part of a team, including other attorneys, support personnel, volunteers, and community partners;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Capability to balance and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial equity.
  • Ability to work efficiently across various teams.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English is a plus;

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time exempt position. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, starting at $65,000. The compensation for the selected candidate may be significantly higher based on their years of experience.
