Job Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater treatment facility and lift stations, ensuring compliance with strict water quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, directing, and supervising the efficient operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater treatment facility and pump stations.
  • Ensure plant compliance with strict water quality standards as established by State Department of Health and Environmental Control, City, and County policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the work of subordinate staff, including scheduling, instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others.
  • Coordinate and schedule training for operators on new and existing plant operations and safety procedures.
  • Develop and administer the division's annual operating and capital improvement budgets, reviewing and approving all expenditures.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Inspecting equipment and processes to determine efficiency of operations, maintenance requirements, and cleanliness.
  • Reviewing reports prepared by subordinates and determining what changes in operating routines may be necessary for various shifts.
  • Supervising the maintenance of required records and reports.
  • Preparing reports of plant processes and operations as required by regulatory agencies and the City.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or a closely related field, with at least four years of relevant prior experience, including activated sludge. Valid South Carolina Class "D" Driver's License and Class "A" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License are also required.
