Job Overview

The Sanborn Map Company is seeking to hire a Natural Resource GIS Analyst / Programmer (Intermediate) to join our dynamic team.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering GIS services that support various Federal agency initiatives. The position requires both technical and analytical expertise to develop, optimize, and implement workflows for preparing and processing spatial datasets. These datasets will aid in NEPA analysis for projects related to vegetation and fuel management, monitoring of National Forests, and emergency response activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical and cartographic support to interdisciplinary teams focusing on hydrology, fire management, soils, wildlife, and other natural resources.
  • Create advanced web-based products such as dashboards and story maps, ensuring high-quality visual representation of data.
  • Compile and assess the integrity of various datasets from multiple sources, recommending solutions for any discrepancies.
  • Develop geospatial workflows using scripting languages like R, Python, and Java, ensuring quality assurance and validation of outputs.
  • Utilize remote sensing data, including imagery and LiDAR, for ecosystem modeling and project planning.
  • Apply geospatial and natural resource expertise to analyze complex management challenges and provide actionable insights.
  • Automate multi-scale analyses of natural resource data using scripting tools, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Leverage cloud-based platforms for processing satellite imagery to monitor trends in fire severity and vegetation changes.
  • Generate clear and compliant map products, presenting findings to stakeholders effectively.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide regular updates to team members and management.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Forestry, Ecology, Geography, or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in GIS and related technologies is essential.
  • Proficiency in ESRI GIS products and scripting languages is necessary for success in this role.
  • Experience collaborating with natural resource agencies or public land management organizations is preferred.
