Job Title: Senior Environmental Scientist

Join the Department of Fish and Wildlife as a Senior Environmental Scientist and contribute to the preservation and restoration of California's natural resources.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and coordination with various stakeholders to implement the Suisun Marsh Preservation Agreement (SMPA) and Suisun Marsh Habitat Management, Preservation, and Restoration Plan (SMP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise and coordination with the CDFW Bay Delta Region, Department of Water Resources, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Suisun Resource Conservation District on the SMPA and SMP.
  • Implement SMP actions for species and habitat monitoring and tidal restoration projects.
  • Lead the Suisun Marsh Program staff, manage contract and budget, and prepare annual reports.
  • Coordinate and communicate with CDFW management and programs regarding salt marsh harvest mouse (SMHM) conservation efforts.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) exam.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with long hours, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends. Field work will involve variable weather conditions, exposure to mosquitos and ticks, and the need to safely conduct field work in uneven terrain.
