Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teacher to join our team at the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Charter School (DCJJCS) or the Dallas County Juvenile Alternative Education Program (DCJJAEP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement instructional and skill development lesson plans that conform to the charter school curriculum and all knowledge, skills, and assessment requirements.
  • Teach instructional subjects according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), charter policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist students in assessing and improving study methods and habits, and use results to design instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers and staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and collaborate with staff to determine charter requirements for the instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Participate in staff development programs to maintain current knowledge, understanding, and skill in teaching strategies and the learning process.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate major for the assigned classroom subject.
  • Texas state teacher certification preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of standard software applications.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public.
Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in a standard classroom environment within a secured facility. May require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted.

The position requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.
