Job Summary

The City of Harrisonburg is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer II, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and regulations to ensure public safety and order
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance to citizens
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence to solve crimes
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and best practices
  • Participate in community outreach and education programs to build trust and partnerships
Requirements
  • Currently certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), the Federal Government, or another state
  • High School Diploma or GED; College Degree or Military Experience preferred
  • 21 years of age at time of application
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien with an application for Naturalization filed and pending with Immigration Services
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable record per City policy
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts (6am-6pm, 6pm-6am, or 3pm-3am)
  • Must live or be willing to relocate to live within a one (1) hour drive of the Harrisonburg Police Department
