Role of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) provide direct patient care to a designated group of patients, adhering to the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Northside Hospital. LPNs are involved in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in a specific clinical setting.
As stated by the National Association of Practical & Licensed Vocational Nurses (NALPN), "Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses represent the entry point into the nursing profession." LPNs work in various clinical environments, collaborating with a team of healthcare professionals to enhance patient functionality and safeguard their health and safety. LPNs participate in the Licensed Practical Nurse – Nursing Excellence Track Program (L-NEXT) at Northside Hospital, offering pathways for career advancement through knowledge expansion, continuing education, and specialty certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/License or Certification
- Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an LPN.
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Georgia.
- Certification in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- Prior experience in a specialized area.
