Retail Store Associate Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Retail Store Associate to join our team at Big Lots Stores. As a Retail Store Associate, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional customer service, maintaining a clean and organized store environment, and supporting the overall success of our store.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment, including the sales floor, stockroom, and customer service areas.
  • Support the sales floor team by restocking shelves, processing transactions, and assisting with merchandise recovery.
  • Participate in the freight flow process, including unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Assist with furniture department operations, including carry-outs and display assembly as needed.
  • Perform daily front-end maintenance, including check stand cleanliness, replenishment of merchandise and supplies, and floor safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Store Leadership, such as cart retrieval, shrink control, and safety-related tasks.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Prior retail experience preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a cash register preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds required.
  • Ability to unload freight, move product on and off store shelves, walk, stand, bend, stoop, or kneel for long periods of time, and move freely throughout the store on a continual basis required.
  • Basic English literacy and math skills required.
