About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Accounting Division of the Finance Department in the City of Oklahoma City. As a Municipal Accountant II, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate records of municipal accounts, monitoring expenditures, and preparing periodic financial statements and administrative reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply accounting principles and practices to a computerized municipal accounting system
  • Monitor expenditures and prepare periodic financial statements and administrative reports
  • Exchange information with other City employees, outside agencies, and citizens to discuss expenditures, explain governmental regulations, and provide or obtain information related to budgetary considerations and financial reports
  • Provide technical assistance or training to clerical and professional personnel through verbal explanation and physical demonstration of work performed
Requirements
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques, and principles
  • Skill in applying knowledge of accounting to work performed
  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial data
  • Skill in compiling and working accurately with large quantities of data
  • Skill in verbal and written communications
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work product
  • Ability to supervise clerical and professional personnel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, or closely related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in preparing financials, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
  • Skill in using computer software such as Excel and financial software
  • Experience in governmental accounting
