Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Technician to join our team at FastWyre Broadband. As a Network Technician, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional service to our customers by installing, programming, testing, maintaining, and repairing central office equipment, transmission systems, and special circuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize company equipment, computer programs, and applications as required to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Perform central office administrative duties, including maintaining records, completing specialized reports, preparing logs, processing complex orders and trouble reports.
  • Read and understand technical manuals and schematic drawings to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
  • Stay current with industry technology and learn IT functions and enhanced telecommunications technologies to improve network performance.
  • Demonstrate technical skills and understanding necessary to perform installation, operation, maintenance, testing, and provisioning of central office switching and transmission equipment from various manufacturers.
  • Understand trunk signaling protocols, CO routing, screening, trunk and line level/impairment specifications, and tests to ensure network integrity.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair advanced telecommunication services, including FTTP/FTTH, DOCSIS, VDSL, T1/PRI, and VOIP.
  • Perform basic installation, testing, maintenance, and repairs of carrier equipment/Cable Television headend equipment.
  • Install, operate, test, maintain, and repair radio systems, including microwave, UFH, VFH, and BETRS.
  • Receive and troubleshoot malfunctioning telecommunication services using computer applications, testing devices, to locate and diagnose the nature of the problem.
  • Perform and interpret extensive diagnostic tests on digital switching equipment.
  • Provide technical support to aid in resolving complex issues for internal employees.
  • Read and understand industry standards and group documents, including Bell core, NECA, USTA, and ITU.
  • Read and understand manufacturers' schematics and documentation, industry standards, and group documents.
  • Follow procedures for company buildings and grounds.
  • Understand how all company departments contribute to the success of the organization and refer customers and employees to the appropriate department to best fulfill their needs.
  • Build and maintain a good rapport and cooperative relationship with customers and co-workers while taking ownership of responsibilities and being accountable for his/her own actions.
  • Participate in and volunteer for company programs and special events.
Requirements
  • Effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to use appropriate computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, with proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.

Qualifications

The Central Office Technician must have a minimum of an associate's degree in a related field of study, along with 4+ years of related work experience in maintaining switches, routers, fiber optic cables, and other equipment at switching hubs or central offices, and a valid driver's license.

A bachelor's degree in a related field of study, along with 2 years of related work experience in maintaining switches, routers, fiber optic cables, and other equipment at switching hubs or central offices, and a valid driver's license is preferred.

Preference for experience with hosted PBX and SIP networking. Knowledge of Meta Switch, Calix, Adtran, BTI, and Infinera is preferred but not required.
