Job Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse is a staff nurse who provides direct, primary nursing care to residents and delegates and supervises the care provided by certified nursing assistants.

Responsibilities

• Meet with members of the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate residents' care.

• Document nursing activities accurately and in a timely manner.

• Receive and record physicians' orders.

• Communicate staffing problems and needs to the charge nurse.

• Develop work assignments for nursing assistants and other subordinate staff.

• Ensure subordinate staff complies with job descriptions.

• Report problems and complaints to the charge nurse.

• Provide feedback to nurse managers regarding performance of nursing assistants.

• Receive and provide end of shift report.

• Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.

• Serve on and participate in committees as assigned.

• Ensure nursing assistants comply with policies and procedures.

• Report maintenance and housekeeping needs.

• Identify and report needs for supplies and equipment.

• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance activities.

• Adhere to professional codes of ethics.

Requirements

• Current LPN/LVN licensure in the state.

• At least one year of nursing experience.

• Continuing education or special preparation or experience in gerontological and/or long-term care nursing desirable.
