Project Engineer

The Project Engineer – Mechanical Lead will lead and manage a New Product Development engineering team. This individual will be responsible for high-level planning of design activities for new systems of heavy-duty vehicles. They will make critical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering initiatives. The Project Engineer – Mechanical Lead will provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design. They will coordinate project activities, ensuring deadlines are met, and facilitating effective communication among cross-functional teams. Organizational skills, leadership abilities, and attention to detail will be instrumental in delivering successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create and maintain engineering documentation for project planning, requirements analysis, risk management, issues management, status reporting, project communication, and quality assurance.
• Coordinate communication and activities between Engineering functions (Design, Electrical, Hydraulic, Controls, Analysis, Manufacturing Systems, R&D, Testing).
• Responsible for tracking and achieving cost targets for product or part of a product.
• Manages engineering scope, cost, timeline, integrated schedules, and risk assessment.
• Responsible for planning and maintaining vehicle Final Assembly Parts List and overall documentation structure.
• Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support functions internally as well as suppliers externally.
• Responsible for preparation and delivery of design schedules and status reporting.
• Ensure that documentation releases are conducted within the framework of company processes and standards.
• Communicate project objectives to team members.
• May be responsible for managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to complete a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time.
• Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills.
• May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry organizations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Accredited bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and five (5) or more years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
• Experience with a high-level CAD system.
• PMP Certification.
