Job Summary

The Intake Worker (Shelter Advocate) plays a vital role in supporting the Intake Worker Director by conducting intake interviews, supervising clients, and maintaining a secure and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough intake interviews with incoming residents to assess their needs and develop a plan for their stay
  • Assign rooms and distribute essential items, ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support to residents, enforcing rules and policies while promoting a sense of community
  • Maintain awareness of client needs and provide assistance as needed
  • Answer phone calls and take messages when necessary
  • Clean shelter areas as required
  • Prepare snacks for residents and oversee lunch and dinner preparations in the dining room
  • Review log books and update entries as needed
  • Perform room inspections and distribute medications as required
  • Supervise volunteers and community service workers when assigned

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with the homeless population is desirable.
