Role Overview:
This position serves as the primary on-site supervisory role, responsible for assigning, coordinating, training, and assessing a team of semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel based on their capabilities, experience, and knowledge to facilitate production in ship repair and industrial fabrication tasks.
The role requires a presence on-site and may necessitate working hours beyond the standard work week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate production and operational needs. Limited travel may be involved.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential duties include:
- Overseeing critical activities in the employee lifecycle for all direct reports, including timekeeping, job assignments, training, performance management, and supervision, ensuring that employees are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to work safely and effectively.
- Translating broader production strategies into actionable plans that align with safety, quality, cost, and scheduling objectives while continuously monitoring job sites.
- Assessing job sites and work environments prior to project initiation to guarantee safe setups and efficient workflows.
- Ensuring compliance with all technical job aspects, including adherence to contract stipulations, drawings, and procedural guidelines.
- Providing daily updates to management to assist in project development and execution.
- Reviewing project specifications and ordering materials in accordance with contract requirements.
- Generating and submitting production reports that meet all technical and customer specifications.
- Coordinating the mobilization and demobilization of tools and resources for projects, including reporting on any damaged or lost equipment.
- Managing project-related certifications and permits.
- Initiating quality assurance and customer communications and participating in inspections.
- Serving as a backup to the General Foreman when necessary.
- A Bachelor's Degree or Registered Apprentice (graduate) or a high school diploma with at least 6 years of relevant trade experience.
- Proven ability to perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW and FCAW techniques.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 standards and NAVSEA codes/requirements.
- Experience in new fabrication and construction projects.
- Ability to interpret job specifications, drawings, and related technical documents.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience is advantageous.
- Minimal travel, approximately 10% or less.
- Ability to lift and transport heavy equipment, with a minimum weight requirement of 20 lbs.
- Physical agility to perform tasks aboard naval vessels, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
- Potential for extended periods aboard ships at sea.
- Capability to work in various environmental conditions, including high heat and humidity.
- Frequent exposure to noise from machinery and equipment.
- Required to operate trucks, forklifts, and man-lifts.
- Regular standing, walking, and use of hands for various tasks.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation.
- Use of protective equipment, including respirators, when necessary.
