Role Overview:

The Patient Registration Coordinator is responsible for a range of administrative and clerical tasks that facilitate patient registration and manage financial obligations.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a state criminal background check, and federal if applicable, as mandated by health department regulations.


Core Responsibilities:

The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work performed by individuals in this position. They are not exhaustive and other responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Collects demographic, billing, and insurance details from patients or their representatives and inputs this information into the registration and billing systems. Scans insurance cards and identification documents.
  • Provides patients with information regarding insurance, billing processes, and hospital protocols.
  • Handles managed care tasks including obtaining necessary pre-certifications and authorizations.
  • Prepares and presents consent forms and privacy notices to patients for signatures, ensuring electronic consent for treatment and financial obligations is obtained.
  • Processes deposits, co-payments, and other patient liability payments, issuing receipts and documenting transactions accurately.
  • Generates patient identification armbands.
  • Balances daily financial transactions and follows up on accounts as indicated by system alerts.
  • May initiate screenings and gather relevant information for insurance coverage, completing necessary documentation.
  • Conducts medical necessity checks and issues Advanced Beneficiary Notices as required.
  • Manages patient scheduling, including appointments, rescheduling, and cancellations in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Verifies order completeness and checks against scheduled services.

  • Ability to memorize and reference a significant amount of information.
  • Understanding of medical insurance requirements and basic knowledge of covered services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
