Physician Assistant - The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center


The Physician Assistant role encompasses a range of increasingly autonomous and intricate responsibilities that are typically performed by a physician.

The individual in this position will deliver advanced patient care tailored to the patient's specific diagnosis, treatment plan, age, developmental stage, and other recognized needs.

This role ensures the provision of high-quality direct and/or indirect patient care in clinical, administrative, and educational settings.

The incumbent will offer direct plastic surgery services to patients, adhering to the educational, training, and patient care standards established by the Department of Plastic Surgery.

Responsibilities are executed in accordance with the policies set forth by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and in compliance with state regulations and laws.

The Physician Assistants will engage in the full spectrum of care, including Outpatient, Operating Room (OR), and some Inpatient settings. The primary focus will be on outpatient clinics, providing first assistant support in the OR.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Surgical Assistance: Perform first and second assist duties in the operating room as required, demonstrating proficiency with surgical instruments and techniques.
  • Patient Management: Conduct preoperative assessments and ensure timely completion of health and physical updates.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with OR staff, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are prepared for surgical procedures.
  • Postoperative Care: Write postoperative orders and facilitate patient transitions to recovery areas.
  • Inpatient Responsibilities: Conduct daily rounds and manage various inpatient care activities, including wound care and discharge planning.
  • Outpatient Responsibilities: Assess patients in clinic settings, ensuring accurate and comprehensive medical histories are obtained.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Required:

A Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).


Preferred:
A Master's Level Degree in a relevant field.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Required:

All of the following:

  • Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensure by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

EXPERIENCE

Required:
None.

Preferred:
Previous experience in a surgical or plastic surgery practice is advantageous.

Additional Information

  • Minimum Salary: USD 115,000
  • Midpoint Salary: USD 144,000
  • Maximum Salary: USD 173,000

Note: This position is exempt from overtime pay and may include relocation assistance.
