Position Overview: The "Instructional Support Specialist" is responsible for providing educational assistance through the supervision and support of students engaged in credit recovery programs. This role involves planning and executing assigned tasks for students not enrolled in categorical programs and performing routine clerical duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior relevant experience, either paid or volunteer, working with school-aged children.
- Education: An associate degree or higher, or completion of at least two years of study at an accredited institution (72 college quarter hours or more), demonstrating knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
- Licensure: Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance and First Aid/CPR certification.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of child development principles and instructional methodologies.
- Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and various computer applications.
- Ability to perform basic clerical tasks and arithmetic calculations.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Capability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Quickly learn instructional methods and materials.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience interacting with diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds.
Essential Job Functions:
- Collaborate with program administrators while receiving guidance and support.
- Work as part of a team to assist students with assessments and curriculum, monitor interactions, enforce safety protocols, and foster social development.
- Provide instructional support and tutoring in various group settings.
- Maintain accurate records and perform clerical tasks to assist teachers.
- Communicate with teachers to provide feedback on student progress.
- Support students in building positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Ensure student safety by applying district management and safety guidelines.
- Monitor student activities to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies appropriately.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Cross-train in various school functions to assist colleagues.
- Maintain classroom materials and student records.
- Administer first aid and medical assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to evaluate student progress.
- Participate in meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Assist with student transportation needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Effective communication in potentially noisy environments.
- Manual dexterity for tasks such as keyboarding.
- Capability to lift and move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
