Job Summary

The Maintenance Inspector is a key role within the San Antonio Water System, responsible for ensuring the quality of lawn maintenance, landscaping, and tree trimming services at our property sites. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and oversee lawn maintenance contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Coordinate work schedules and activities between contractors, SAWS departments, customers, and other agencies.
  • Interpret and enforce SAWS lawn maintenance contracts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to terms.
  • Ensure the security of SAWS stations and properties, preparing written reports and forms as necessary.
  • Apply standard grounds maintenance, landscaping, and safety practices and procedures.
  • Complete daily reports of contractor work routines and review contractor performance.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and public relations.
  • Perform emergency lawn maintenance, landscaping, tree trimming, pesticide application, and minor facility repairs as needed.
  • Extract bees and other creatures from meter boxes and SAWS-related areas.
  • May create, update, and close work orders using computerized work order management systems.
  • Perform work order filing, clerical duties, and submit monthly work order reports to upper management.
  • Perform additional assigned duties, receive and distribute crucial information via email to respective personnel.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years' experience performing grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related work.
  • Valid Class C driver's license consistent with SAWS driving policy.
  • Ability to use grounds maintenance equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional knowledge and training with heavy equipment, ground maintenance machinery, and equipment.
  • Bilingual.
Working Conditions

The Maintenance Inspector will work in a field environment with inclement weather, exposure to dust, fumes, odors, gases, noise, animals, snakes, insects, poisonous insects, traffic, and rugged terrain. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, drive, lift, push, pull, carry, walk, stand, visual acuity, speech, hearing, squatting, crouching, and climbing ladders.
