JOB SUMMARY:
MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society is looking for a Psychiatric Medical Director to oversee the behavioral health and substance use treatment units. This role is crucial in ensuring that clinical services adhere to all regulatory standards and guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver primary care to patients in the inpatient mental health and substance use treatment units.
- Participate in legal proceedings as necessary for matters related to patient care.
- Act as a consultant and point of contact for medical units, emergency services, and long-term care facilities.
- Supervise clinical operations for detoxification and rehabilitation services, including medication-assisted therapies.
- Provide tele-psychiatric consultations as needed.
- Be available for on-call duties one night each week and one weekend per month.
- Conduct peer reviews with insurance providers to assess medical necessity and secure prior authorizations for treatments.
- Ensure compliance with electronic health records and accurate billing practices for all patient interactions.
- Collaborate with administrative staff on policies, procedures, utilization, and productivity metrics.
- Achieve Psychiatric Core Measures in a timely and accurate manner.
- Complete psychiatric assessments and discharge summaries within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: A minimum of three years in the field of psychiatry.
Education: M.D. with board certification in psychiatry and/or addiction is preferred.
Licenses / Certifications: Board certification in Psychiatry; board certification in Addiction is preferred.
