Certified Medication Assistant

The primary objective of the Certified Medication Aide position at Cantex is to administer oral and topical medications to patients/residents in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires the individual to perform tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the five rights of medication administration.
- Take and record vital signs of patients/residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.
- Record the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
- Observe for and report any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse or the appropriate shift.
- Administer PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
- Document reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
- May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.
- Properly secure medication carts/medication rooms per state and federal regulations and facility policy.
- Attend facility education in-services.
- May make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
- May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
- Ensure that medication room, med carts and medication refrigerators are kept clean and well organized.
- Ensure that any expired medications are removed for destruction per facility policy and procedures.
- Attend Quality Assurance meetings per request.
- Ability to function as a Team Leader/Role Model.
- Has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employee's responsibility to enforce it.
- Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- State certification as a Nursing Assistant is mandatory.
- State approved medication administration certification (where required).
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
