Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for performing MRI procedures, applying principles of magnetic resonance safety, and selecting appropriate pulse sequences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic imaging exams
  • Apply principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patients, self, and others
  • Select appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition
  • Determine and/or follow appropriate imaging protocols
  • Document pertinent exam information in the medical record
  • Maintain archival storage of imaging exams and associated documents
  • Assist licensed independent practitioners with specialized interventional MRI procedures and apply appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed
  • Maintain records, respecting confidentiality and established policy
  • Apply the principles of patient safety during all aspects of MRI procedures, including assisting and transporting patients
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic imaging orders in the patient's medical record
  • Corroborate patient's clinical history with the ordered procedure while ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner
  • Verify informed consent
  • Assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures
  • Prepare patients for procedures
  • Apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others
  • Perform venipuncture per procedural protocol based on imaging order from a licensed independent practitioner
  • Start and maintain intravenous access per procedural protocol based on an imaging order for a licensed independent practitioner
  • Identify, prepare, and/or administer medications generally associated with diagnostic imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner
  • Label all medications per institutional protocol
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded
  • Identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until appropriate licensed independent practitioner, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control
  • Provide patient education related to imaging procedures
  • Educate, mentor, and provide general oversight of students and other learners in the Radiology environment
  • Participate and/or perform ongoing quality assurance activities
Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • ARRT-MRI
  • Current Certification by ARRT-MRI
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • One (1) year of previous MRI Technologist work experience
  • Experience PREFERRED: One to three (1-3) years of previous MRI Technologist work experience
  • Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
  • Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT; or Graduation from a JRCNMT accredited program in nuclear medicine technology
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or closely related field from an accredited program
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and interact with frequent and intense customer interactions. The successful candidate will be able to adapt to frequent change and work in a noisy environment.

This position requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods, sit for prolonged periods, walk (distance), and perform repetitive motion. The successful candidate will also be able to interact with a computer for prolonged periods.

This position requires the ability to hear, speak clearly, write legibly, read, and think logically. The successful candidate will also be able to see and work in a vision-based environment.
