Position Summary: Collaborate with Pediatric faculty to deliver comprehensive medical care for pediatric patients within the Pediatric Units of Wesley Hospital, with potential responsibilities at the Pediatric Faculty Clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute all assigned medical tasks and procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician, except in emergencies where independent life-saving actions are necessary.
- Document all medical charts with oversight from a physician.
- Engage in continuous discussions with the supervising physician regarding patient care plans and hospital course.
- Participate in daily presentations of patient evaluations and care plans with the pediatric team, providing updates as new issues arise.
- Ensure all billing and medical records are completed within the required timeframe.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
Initial Patient Care:
- Gather comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, and post-natal histories to facilitate effective care.
- Perform necessary procedures to stabilize patients.
- Conduct admission physical examinations and complete all required documentation.
- Formulate diagnoses and care objectives based on assessments and diagnostic data.
- Develop care plans in collaboration with the attending physician, including:
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Performing diagnostic procedures, ensuring supervision when necessary.
- Initiating respiratory support and managing drug therapies.
- Administering fluid and nutritional support as clinically indicated.
- Monitoring for infections and implementing appropriate therapies.
- Establish communication with families, sharing responsibility for conveying patient status and care plans.
- Document all activities and responses in the medical record.
- Update referring physicians on patient status in collaboration with the attending physician.
Ongoing Patient Management:
- Collect and integrate patient care information from various healthcare professionals to develop or continue care plans.
- Consult with specialists as needed, following discussions with the attending physician.
- Conduct daily physical examinations and maintain accurate medical records.
- Adjust care plans as necessary, documenting changes and notifying the attending physician promptly.
- Continue family engagement, assessing their understanding and emotional needs throughout the care process.
- Participate in patient care meetings and provide education to nursing staff regarding patient needs.
Discharge and Transfer Procedures:
- Gather information to determine discharge or transfer readiness.
- Review and document all necessary discharge or transfer details.
- Collaborate with the attending physician for approval of discharges and transfers.
- Perform discharge evaluations and complete required documentation.
- Develop discharge plans in partnership with medical staff and caregivers.
- Maintain communication with families to prepare them for discharge or transfer.
- Document all actions and communications during the discharge process.
Qualifications:
- Education: BSN preferred; Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with a Master's Degree or equivalent training.
- Experience: Two to four years of pediatric experience preferred.
- Skills: Proficient in EMR systems, electronic patient charting, and basic Microsoft applications.
- Licenses: Active RN and APRN licenses in the state of Kansas.
