Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Safety Operations Manager is tasked with the crucial responsibility of designing, executing, and overseeing the organization's Safety Program and Transportation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages the activities of the Safety Department.
  • Provides leadership, training, and evaluation for safety-related issues.
  • Implements and enforces health, safety, environmental, and fire prevention protocols.
  • Conducts regular environmental inspections on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Educates staff on proper procedures for emergencies and disasters.
  • Creates comprehensive emergency evacuation strategies for all facilities.
  • Acts as the liaison with local emergency and disaster response agencies.
  • Facilitates monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Investigates incidents, injuries, and illnesses to enhance safety measures and prevent recurrence.
  • Prepares and presents reports, briefings, or summaries to relevant personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with local law enforcement.
  • Oversees departmental budgeting and adheres to financial constraints.
  • Approves requests for safety-related equipment and supplies.
  • Manages inventory and maintenance of safety materials and equipment.
  • Plans and organizes the deployment of overtime and on-call staff to ensure compliance with organizational policies.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven leadership abilities and knowledge of management practices.
  • Strong understanding of budget management and expenditure tracking.
  • Experience in developing and managing safety and security initiatives.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal workplace safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Ability to perform risk assessments and develop protection strategies.
  • Knowledge of internal investigation protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with staff and students.
  • Effective time management and organizational capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in formulating and implementing safety policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years in military, law enforcement, or safety management roles.
  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a valid commercial Driver's License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of employment.
  • Water Safety Certification is required.
