Job Title: Certified Peer Specialist

At Alternative Community Resource Programs Inc, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Certified Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing person-centered, recovery-oriented services to adults and youth with serious mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of a recovery-treatment team to support consumers in achieving recovery and community integration.
  • Provide recovery education to consumers, family members, and professional staff to promote understanding and support.
  • Act as a community liaison to develop relationships with service agencies and other organizations to enhance service coordination and linkage.
  • Provide outreach and engagement between consumers and support organizations to facilitate access to resources and services.
  • Assist consumers in recovery-based goal development and planning to promote self-advocacy and empowerment.
  • Facilitate community integration and consistent use of natural resources to support consumers in achieving their goals.
  • Promote self-advocacy skills and opportunities to empower consumers to take control of their lives.
  • Facilitate linkage to treatment services to ensure consumers receive the support they need to achieve recovery.

Requirements:

  • A personal belief in recovery and a genuine hope and optimism that peers will succeed.
  • A sincere interest in the welfare of peers, including the ability to see each person as a unique individual.
  • A willingness to share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
  • An ability to flexibly engage people based on their level of receptivity and individual needs.
  • Possess effective written/verbal communication, boundary setting, and computer skills.

Clearances and Certifications:

  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances.
  • ACT 31 certificate.
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a good driving record and own reliable transportation for travel to consumers' homes and communities.
  • Be willing to complete and pass the mandatory 75-hour peer specialist certification training program, which includes oral and written examinations.
  • Be willing to complete 18 hours of approved continuing education training per year, with 12 hours specifically focused on peer support and/or recovery practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Some travel required.
