Job Summary

This position is located at Claremore Indian Hospital, providing comprehensive health care to Indian Health Service beneficiaries on a daily basis. The incumbent works independently and on their own initiative as an Internal Medicine provider, supporting the service unit in achieving its mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to adult male and female patients
  • Offer chronic, acute, follow-up, and preventative medicine services
  • Perform procedures in accordance with current competencies & privileges (dependent on the resources of the facility)
  • Obtain an adequate history and physical from the patient and/or family
  • Perform an adequate & appropriate physical exam related to the patient's primary problem or chief complaint
  • Order appropriate laboratory or radiology exams (as available), and provide recommendation for further testing (if studies are not available on site)
  • Order appropriate medication
  • Interpret and synthesize clinical data
Requirements
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period
  • ESEP appointees typically serve a two-year trial period
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S)

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.

This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.

Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Note An agency may waive the licensure requirement for research positions not involving direct patient care.

Graduate Training Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.

An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics).

Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association, (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

Applicants who meet the above Basic Requirements qualify for GS-11 (or equivalent) positions.

For GS years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

For GS years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Selective Placement Factor:

Must be board certified by an American Specialty Board in Internal Medicine

Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
