Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our team at Advocate Health. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the referral process, ensuring timely and accurate communication with patients, physicians, and payors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the referral process, including collecting referrals from medical staff, obtaining approvals, and processing referrals for patients.
  • Communicate with patients, physicians, and payors regarding referral status, results, and follow-up actions.
  • Review payor requirements and ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in education and eligibility problem resolution, working with attendings and nurses to educate physician office staff on referral procedures.
  • Establish controls and a tickler system to track referrals, ensuring patients receive services and results are received in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 3-4 years of experience in a managed care organization, hospital, or physician's office with 1 year of referral experience preferred.
  • Excellent medical terminology comprehension and effective usage required.
  • Computer literate with experience with IDX, Windows, and other I.S. systems preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work independently and handle stress and high workload volumes.
  • Ability to communicate denial of services to members and providers.
