Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Actalent. As a Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in performing newborn screening testing on blood spot specimens to help identify infants at risk for inherited conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Newborn Screening Testing: Conduct immunoassay, enzyme assay, electrophoresis, HPLC, tandem mass spectrometry, and molecular methods to analyze blood spot specimens.
  • Maintain Laboratory Instruments: Perform daily operation, routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Document and Review Results: Document and review newborn screening test data, procedures, and results to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Release Data and Reports: Release data and reports for use by physicians, health care professionals, and newborn screening medical follow-up programs.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and prepare documentation for test verification or validation studies.
  • Perform Quality Control and Assurance: Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures in accordance with established standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Troubleshoot Laboratory Issues: Recognize basic problems and assist in troubleshooting of laboratory method and performance issues.
  • Assemble Quality Control Data: Assemble quality control data for further analysis; recognize problems; document issues; perform root cause analysis; and initiate corrective actions.
