Position Overview

Key Responsibilities of the Respite Staff:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children diagnosed with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
  • Supervise children while engaging them in activities such as arts and crafts, reading, social skills development, and recreational play.
  • Lead and facilitate recreational activities that are suitable for the developmental stages of the children.
  • Implement interventions to promote positive behaviors as outlined in the respite care plan and in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Provide necessary support including transporting children to activities, assisting with educational tasks, and participating in service planning and case evaluations.
  • Foster positive interactions with children, effectively managing challenging behaviors to encourage personal growth and well-being.
  • Maintain clear communication with family members, supervisors, and fellow staff members.
  • Document interactions with children, noting their needs and any irregularities in written reports.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within specified deadlines.
  • Engage in regular meetings with the Program Director and participate in mandatory training sessions.
  • Enhance the professional image of the agency through dedicated service.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check in compliance with state regulations.
  • Must have reliable transportation for commuting to and from the respite center.
