Position Overview:
The primary responsibilities of the Automotive Technician role involve conducting maintenance and repair tasks on division vehicles and heavy machinery, both in the workshop and in the field.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for the Automotive Technician position, candidates must:
  • Hold an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field; or have successfully completed a Mechanic Apprenticeship program; or possess four (4) current ASE/FPS certifications; or have four (4) years of experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining automotive vehicles, medium-duty trucks, or heavy equipment. Required ASE Certifications include A1 - Engine Repair, T - Gasoline Engines, or T - Diesel Engines, and A - Electrical/Electronic Systems or T6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems. The remaining two (2) certifications will be determined based on departmental needs from an approved ASE/FPS list, which includes A1-A8; T1-T6, T8; F1; L1; and/or FPS certifications such as Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic, Hydraulic Technician, and/or Application/Electronics Specialist.
  • Obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License from their state of residence within the trial or probationary period after entering the classification.
  • Successfully complete Placement/Performance Exercises.
  • Pass a Color Blind Test I.
  • Demonstrate the ability to differentiate sounds while making adjustments.

Working Conditions:
The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to the hazards associated with operating machinery, as well as potential irritants from oils, solvents, chemicals, and fumes. The position requires making service calls in the field and performing heavy lifting. Candidates should be prepared for climbing, standing, and walking for extended periods, as well as working in uncomfortable positions.
