Position Overview:
The primary responsibilities of the Automotive Technician include performing maintenance and repair tasks on vehicles and heavy machinery, both in the workshop and in the field.

Qualifications:
To be considered for the Automotive Technician role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field; or have successfully completed a Mechanic Apprenticeship program; or hold four (4) current ASE/FPS certifications; or have four (4) years of experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining automotive vehicles, medium-duty trucks, or heavy equipment.
  • Required ASE Certifications include A1 Engine Repair, T Gasoline Engines, T Diesel Engines, and A Electrical/Electronic Systems or T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems. Additional certifications will be determined based on departmental needs from an approved ASE/FPS list.
  • Obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License from the state of residence within the trial or probationary period after entering the classification.
  • Successfully complete Placement/Performance Exercises.
  • Pass a Color Blind Test.
  • Demonstrate the ability to differentiate sounds while making adjustments.

Working Conditions:
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work. The technician will be exposed to the hazards associated with operating machinery and may encounter irritants such as oils, solvents, chemicals, and fumes. The role requires making service calls in the field and involves heavy lifting, climbing, and standing or walking for extended periods, often in uncomfortable positions.
