Job Summary

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is seeking a highly qualified Supervisory Optometrist to join our team. As a Supervisory Optometrist, you will be responsible for overseeing the Optometry Program, providing direct medical/optometric care to patients, and supervising Optometry staff.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Optometry Program, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards
  • Provide direct, comprehensive medical/optometric care to patients
  • Supervise Optometry staff, including assigning work, evaluating performance, and interviewing candidates for positions
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care
Requirements
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited educational program
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
  • One year of professional experience as an optometrist, or completion of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training
Working Conditions

This position is located in a Federally operated hospital, health center, or clinic. As a condition of employment, you must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
