This role involves the secure administration of prescribed medications and treatments as outlined in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Treatment Administration Record (TAR). You will also provide personal care and general nursing support to residents as required, ensuring that their daily needs are met with compassion and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the self-administration of medications within the Assisted Living Department, adhering to all Federal and State regulations as well as company guidelines.
- Conduct thorough counts and sign-off on all narcotics with authorized personnel prior to accepting medication keys, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
- Manage the ordering of medications and treatments from the pharmacy, ensuring that supplies are replenished in a timely manner.
- Verify the accuracy of all medications received against pharmacy labels and the MAR, addressing any discrepancies with the pharmacy and relevant departments.
- Ensure proper storage of all medications, maintaining separation between topical and oral medications.
- Document the opening dates of all vials and bottles, following pharmacy protocols regarding their usage.
- Conduct weekly inspections of medications to remove any expired items.
- Compare current MARs with new MARs during transition periods, notifying supervisors of any inconsistencies.
- Remove discontinued medications from the medication cart and return them to the supervisor.
- Provide personal care services to residents, including bathing, grooming, and assistance with daily living activities.
- Perform general nursing tasks such as monitoring vital signs and documenting relevant information in daily logs.
- Respond to resident calls and assist with their needs as assigned.
- Supervise and guide other clinical staff as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of medication carts at the end of each shift and ensure they are restocked appropriately.
- Participate in ongoing staff training and in-service sessions.
- Maintain accurate medical records for new admissions and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience or training is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 1 month in a similar role, preferably in Senior Living.
Certifications: Current Medication Technician certification as per state regulations.
Language Skills: Proficient in English for effective communication with staff and residents.
Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Personal Attributes- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
