The Aircraft Corrosion Technician is responsible for conducting both scheduled and unscheduled inspections and control measures for aircraft corrosion. This includes essential tasks such as washing, cleaning, detecting, removing corrosion, treating metals, and performing touch-up painting. The role also involves assisting in the preparation of aircraft and components for comprehensive repainting.
- Execute tasks as directed by supervisory personnel, adhering to instructions, relevant technical documentation, manuals, and directives.
- Ensure aircraft safety during maintenance by removing and reinstalling necessary panels and components.
- Utilize hand and power tools for corrosion prevention, treatment, and touch-up painting as required.
- Inspect, identify, remove, and treat corrosion on aircraft.
- Conduct thorough corrosion control procedures, including washing, cleaning, detection, removal, metal treatment, and touch-up painting, defined as areas no larger than one square foot, excluding leading edges.
- Examine both the exterior and interior of aircraft, including gear and wheel wells, for signs of corrosion.
- Document and classify corrosion findings during inspections in accordance with technical manuals.
- Repair and treat corrosion using appropriate chemicals and abrasive compounds, ensuring proper masking of canopies, plastics, rubber parts, and exposed wiring when utilizing chemical paint removers.
- Restore paint integrity through the use of airbrushes, self-pressurized spray kits, or brushes and rollers.
- Order necessary materials for corrosion control operations.
- Manage the preservation and de-preservation of aircraft.
- Assist in preparing aircraft and components for complete repainting, including label application and stencil preparation.
- Provide technical support and guidance for training personnel in similar or lower classifications, demonstrating job procedures as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation of all aircraft parts/components removed, including tagging and processing of repairable, serviceable, or unserviceable parts.
- Adhere to all relevant programs, including Safety, Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications, Corrosion Control, and Tool Control.
- Maintain the Emergency Reclamation locker and fulfill duties as directed by program technical manuals.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment as necessary.
- Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of workspaces and facilities.
- Foster a collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and cooperation among colleagues.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Minimum of two years of general experience in aircraft corrosion control.
- Familiarity with aircraft and ground servicing equipment, including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Possession and maintenance of personal hand tools as outlined in Amentum's minimum tool list.
- Must be Respirator Qualified and become certified in the use of support equipment as required.
- Knowledge of and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Navy, and OSHA safety standards.
- Understanding of normal operational safety requirements while working on and around aircraft and ground support equipment.
- Working knowledge of corrosion theory, detection, treatment, and prevention.
- Familiarity with applicable maintenance and technical manuals, as well as basic and special tools.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English, following both verbal and written instructions.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift or schedule.
