Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Driver - Front End to join our team at GFL Environmental. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for safely operating front-end trucks and equipment on assigned routes to service customers in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate front-end trucks and equipment to collect solid waste on designated routes, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, complete daily reports, and maintain accurate records of route sheets and other documentation.
  • Operate overhead arms of front-end vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to company procedures and guidelines.
  • Clean the sump area of the truck daily, ensuring proper maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Communicate vehicle mechanical issues to mechanics and supervisors promptly, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain high standards of route quality, adhering to management-determined standards and protocols.
  • Operate trucks and equipment using prescribed techniques to prevent driver-induced mechanical failures, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Comply with all safety standards, equipment checks, and precautions, adhering to federal, state, local, and company regulations.
  • Communicate potential hazards and damage to supervisors or leads before performing tasks, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle, cleaning the cab interior and exterior regularly.
  • Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors.
  • Report accidents or incidents to supervisors immediately, ensuring prompt response and resolution.
  • Work closely with supervisors to improve routing efficiencies, optimizing routes and reducing waste.
  • Respond to spills using prescribed techniques, minimizing environmental damage and ensuring a quality company image.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance at all times, representing GFL Environmental in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Ensure the use of required personal protective equipment at all times, prioritizing safety and well-being.
  • Attend safety and branch meetings, staying informed and engaged on company policies and procedures.
  • May be required to work overtime, adapting to changing schedules and demands.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to excellence.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired.
  • Possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • One (1) year of satisfactory driving experience of Class A or B vehicles preferred.
  • Must pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Satisfactory driving record.
  • Must pass the GFL Environmental written and road test evaluation.
  • High level of skill involved in backing the Front-End vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with others.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply to job.
  • Ability to write simple reports and correspondence, such as pre- and post-trip inspections, accident reports, daily paperwork, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple correspondence and instructions, such as company policies and procedures, etc.
  • Ability to apply common sense reasoning to carry out uninvolved written and/or oral instructions and to solve general problems.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus due to the constant maneuvering of vehicle in tight and high traffic areas.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds. Occasionally move/push up to 300 pounds.
  • Ability to enter and exit truck to open doors to corrals multiple times during a shift.
  • Ability to climb to top of truck to verify that the load is secured prior to transporting the load to the landfill.
  • Sitting is required 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving.
  • Ability to work in usually loud conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, extreme hot and cold weather conditions (depending on season), moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
  • Works route away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day.
  • Occasionally work in high precarious places.
  • Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Work environment is usually loud.
