Job Description

Job Title: Health Science Teacher

Job Classification: Licensed Instructional

Reports to: Director of CTE and Special Projects

Work Schedule: School Calendar / 7:45am-4:15pm

General Description:

The Health Science Teacher's role is to create a well-rounded, comprehensive Health Science program for students at Career Academy, grades 9-12. You will be responsible for providing support to the students and to the instructional process within the classroom and other assigned areas in a way that will be creative and interesting to the students. Applicants should be fluent with current industry health science processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students for whom you are responsible within your classroom.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
  • Create daily lessons and prepare materials and classroom for class activities aligned with NLPS standards
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Assign and grade class work and homework
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assessments and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
  • Collaborate with parents or guardians, teachers, social worker, and administration in order to resolve students' behavior and academic problems
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss children's progress and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
  • Provide differentiated instruction, student engagement, quality pacing and rigor throughout lessons taught
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and guide students in learning from those activities
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required which may go briefly beyond the scheduled workday.
  • Perform administrative and supervisory duties, as needed
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
  • Select, store, order, issue, inventory and maintain classroom and shop equipment, materials, and supplies

School Activities:

  • Health Science Teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate on faculty committees, study and help resolve school problems.

Requirements:

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing
  • Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
  • Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
  • Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings
  • Ability to demonstrate and operate relevant machinery to the teaching of this content
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility

Qualifications:

· Two or more years experience in a health science field, at least 1 in a long term care facility.

· Be a registered nurse in good standing.

· Have or be eligible to obtain a workplace specialist license from the IDOE

· Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skill

· Demonstrates technology proficiency including but not limited to Microsoft applications

· Possess the ability to work independently and manage time effectively

· Stamina to handle highly active young people

· Lifelong learner- proven expertise and skills when working with new technologies
