Industrial Hygienist

This position has been established to oversee and implement the Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) programs within the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) by ensuring the various clinical and administrative operations carry out comply with all applicable regulations pertaining to environmental management, public health and safety, and the GEMS program and support and achieve VHA, VISN, and HCS GEMS performance requirements and goals.

• Conduct studies of work operations and processes to identify hazards to the health and safety of workers.
• Examine work environments to assess potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Develop and implement environmental management systems to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to identify and address health risks associated with environmental hazards.
• Develop and implement training programs to educate employees on environmental health and safety procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
• Develop and implement corrective action plans to address environmental health and safety issues.

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.
• Or, bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
• Or, certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. The incumbent must be able to work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives. The position requires frequent travel to various locations within the CTVHCS and occasional travel to external locations.
