Under the supervision of the Supervisor for Lactation Services, you will provide breastfeeding education, instruction, and hands-on assistance as needed to all patients in the Medical Center who elect to breastfeed. This care shall be provided in accordance with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners' Code of Ethics and the International Lactation Consultant Associations' Standards of Practice.

You will be a competent clinician who provides care in a skilled and effective manner. Utilizing appropriate decision-making skills and exhibiting competence in the clinical, cognitive and interpersonal skills required to independently and safely manage the routine breastfeeding care of the patient. The Lactation Consultant establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and evaluates outcomes within established standards of practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide breastfeeding education and instruction to patients
  • Offer hands-on assistance as needed to patients
  • Work under the supervision of the Supervisor for Lactation Services
  • Provide care in accordance with established standards of practice
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Lactation Consultant
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact well with clients and staff of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
