Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Female Community Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of various activities aimed at engaging all members of the tribal community while ensuring the daily operations of the tribal gymnasium are maintained effectively. The role emphasizes the promotion of safety and well-being for all participants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is based at the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Gymnasium and Community Center.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: This role reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: This is a full-time, permanent position that includes benefits.

SALARY: The compensation for this role is set at $18.00 per hour.

SCHEDULE: The work schedule is from Tuesday to Saturday, with hours from 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, totaling 40 hours per week, including a 30-minute lunch break.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Organize and facilitate recreational programs for community members across various age groups.
  • Prepare the facility for scheduled events, which may include evening and weekend shifts.
  • Ensure the gymnasium is well-maintained and that safety protocols are adhered to during operations.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the gymnasium, including sweeping, mopping, and maintaining locker rooms and restrooms.
  • Oversee the upkeep of recreational vehicles, ensuring they are clean and presentable.
  • Monitor and supervise recreational events to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Promote upcoming events through effective advertising strategies.
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory management of sports equipment.
  • Perform clerical tasks as required, including responding to inquiries about events.
  • Support the training of staff in event management and safety protocols.
  • Document incidents, injuries, and accidents as necessary.
  • Supervise children and young adults during daily activities.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and with minimal supervision.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license and eligibility for insurance under state regulations.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Strong clerical and organizational skills, including typing and basic computer proficiency.
  • Experience working with youth and community members of all ages.
  • Knowledge of safe practices when using cleaning chemicals.
  • Successful completion of a background check, including adherence to policies regarding contact with children.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment.
  • Self-motivated with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Dependable and punctual in daily attendance.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and effectively.
  • Capable of working under pressure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of performing various physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Requires dexterity and the ability to engage in conversations and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to transport youth and participate in activities requiring prolonged sitting.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Compliance with Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe personnel policies and drug/alcohol policies, including pre-employment testing.

Note: This position is subject to Indian Preference in hiring as per the policies of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
