Job Summary

Ohio Dominican University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Safety Officer to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing safety and security for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the university community and protection of university owned and controlled property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol university entities, including office and classroom buildings, student residence halls, parking lots, healthcare center, and athletic fields, to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Secure and open buildings and areas according to building and academic schedules.
  • Conduct fire code violations and safety hazard checks.
  • Fill out daily shift activity logs and conduct parking enforcement, issuing citations and warnings as necessary.
  • Respond to calls to service, including lockouts, maintenance access to rooms, and escort staff, faculty, and students to vehicles and to residence halls.
  • Unlock buildings according to schedule daily and check Mohun Healthcare boiler pressure three times nightly.
  • Assist nurses and nurse's aides to their vehicles at Mohun Healthcare three times nightly and act as liaison to emergency personnel and public utilities.
  • Fill out maintenance requests as needed and respond to emergency calls, carrying out emergency response procedures and directing others if necessary in emergency situations.
  • Assist with public safety needs for special events on campus and assignment to specific Football Games, Commencements, and University events during regular duty overtime or as mandatory assignments.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, representing the university in a positive and professional manner.
  • Document emergency calls in an electronic report management system and conduct fire watches during power outages or during fire panel maintenance.
  • Conduct room searches with permission from Residence Life staff as needed and test and/or examine materials to determine if illegal or stolen.
  • Provide first responder aid in emergency medical situations and maintain both CPR/First-Aid/AED and Blood borne pathogens certifications.
  • Attend staff meetings, campus events, training, etc. as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience, some college preferred.
  • Prior work experience and/or training in law enforcement or as a security officer required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to use relevant technology and software systems in timely performance of work assignments.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements for the position.
  • Excellent communication and crisis management skills required.
