Deputy Jailer Position

At The Richmond County Sheriff's Office, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Deputy Jailer. This position is responsible for ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail, while also performing related tasks as required.

• Processing inmates and maintaining jail security
• Serving meals and transporting inmates
• Providing inmates with the opportunity to call attorney or relative and advising them on institutional rules and regulations
• Patrolling the jail area to ensure security and maintain order
• Supervising inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and related activities
• Escorting and safeguarding inmates to cell and checking on their physical condition
• Receiving, counting, recording, and washing all laundry in the jail
• Distributing personal and cell cleaning equipment and keeping a record of money received from inmates
• Distributing medication to inmates as prescribed or directed
• Preparing routine records on inmates and performing general clerical duties
• Ensuring the care and maintenance of quarters
• Recording visits, inspecting items brought into the jail, and checking incoming and outgoing mail
• Investigating crimes and critical incidents, collecting evidence, making arrests, and testifying in court

• High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent
• Ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly
• Ability to detect potential behavior problems of inmates
• Ability to detect the early symptoms of common health problems
• Ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately
• Ability to supervise the activities of large groups of inmates
• Ability to prepare records and reports
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates

This is a medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise.
